PARISH GROUPS

Catholic Women's League (CWL)

The CWL is a national charitable organization which has existed for just over 100 years. Its mission is to educate and encourage catholic women to play an active role in the work of the Church at parish, diocesan, national and international levels. The Group meets                         New members are always welcome.



Legion of Mary

The Legion was founded in Dublin Ireland in September 1921 by Frank Duff. It is a lay Catholic organisation, whose members have weekly meetings where prayer and the Rosary are interspersed with reports and discussions. The object of the Legion is active co-operation in the work of Our Lady and the Church and to be of service to the Parish. The group meets


Parish Council

The Parish Council exists to help the Parish Priest carry out his pastoral ministry to the Parish Community. It is to help him identify, understand, and respond to the spiritual needs of parishioners.  At regular intervals Parishioners will be given the opportunity to offer their services as members of the Council.

Mercy Associates

The Mercy Associates group was founded by Sr Agnes Gleeson in 2000. We meet once a month for daily prayer & have a meeting afterwards to discuss our future projects & retreats. The main charity we fundraise for is, “The Women of Peru” & we sell their hand made crafts for them. We hold coffee mornings several times throughout the year for The Women of Peru. Senior Citizens

St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)

In the Parish most of our work is befriending, This is regularly visiting parishioners in their homes. In recent times this has expanded to the wider community of Canvey Island. Our work is wide ranging as many parishioners are aware. Our website is www.svp.org.uk & it will show our motto is “Concern into Action”. 3rd Canvey Island Scout Group (St Joseph’s)

Our Group has been established in the Parish community for almost 50 years & in 2015 have 76 young people & 17 leaders. It is a place where boys & girls between the ages of 6 & 14 can enjoy a range of indoor & outdoor activities from weekly meetings to annual camps. It is an organisation where children can grow, learn new skills, engage in exciting activities & above all have fun.
